Description of the job
A vacancy has arisen at Airbus UK for a Stress Engineer to work within the Wing and Pylon Customer Services based on the Filton site (Bristol) The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the other members of the multi-disciplinary repair team. It will be your responsibility to ensure the customer services and product organisations are supported by creating and maintaining repair solutions, to ensure all repair activities are completed within time scales to meet customer requirements.
You will be carrying out stress analysis on structural damage reported on the Airbus family of aircraft. The structure covered is mainly the metallic wingbox and secondary composite panels on Wide Body (A300 / A310), Single Aisle (A318 / A319 / A320 / A321) and Long Range (A330 / A340 / A3456) but also includes the composite spoilers and ailerons on the Single Aisle aircraft. The damage to be assessed ranges from simple corrosion blend outs and bolt oversizing, to major structural repair involving splicing in of replacement components.
The work will involve liaison with Fatigue & Damage Tolerance, Design and other appropriate Airbus departments in Toulouse and Filton, to come up with optimum design solutions for the airline customer and to define maintenance programs.
The role will also require the successful applicant to take responsibility for individual tasks such as leading major incidents and large damage repair. This will entail project, resource, and budget planning.
Tasks
As the successful candidate your principle tasks will include:
- Working within the team in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments;
- Leading a small team (as required) to support major incidents and larger repair tasks on both a technical and personal management basis;
- Supporting the team in order to adhere to short timescales required for query answers;
- Carrying out static stressing calculations to assess design solutions using standard hand and computer methods;
- Int errogate drawing systems, raising and co-ordination of documentation;
- Supporting on-going local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through methods and process improvements;
- Providing a platform for the continued and future development of the Repair Stress Team;
- Identifying areas where technical processes and procedures are lacking and develop new methods and tools for improvement.
Your skills
As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- A HNC/HND/Degree qualification and experience of working in a Stress position in an engineering environment;
- Static analysis of aircraft structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods prefered
- An understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for static stressing and an ability to develop these methods;
- Be conversant with the technical requirements for designing repairs;
- The ability to understand budget responsibilities for the team;
- PC skills and a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and standard tools such as MathCAD, Unix, Nastran/Patran etc;
- Signatory, or the capability of achieving this within twelve months;
- Good interpersonal, team leadership and communication skills;
- The ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise.
