The Kier Group are currently seeking a HSE Advisor for our Facilities Management to cover the Northern Region.
The post requires visits to sites and contracts managed by Kier Services (FM). There will be times when co-operation will be required with the wider Kier Group operation. The role may also require on occasion attendance at meetings or visits some of which may necessitate an overnight stay.

Duties:

Reporting directly to the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ and the appointed Company Director for Health and Safety.

In conjunction with the Head of HSEQ advise the Directors and other line Managers within the Company of any aspects of Health & Safety that may affect the business including legal requirements.
Provide effective health and safety support to the Company as required by the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ and / or the appointed Company Director for Health and Safety and maintain a functional link and an effective line of communication to the Head of HSEQ.

Ensure regular details and factual communication on all Health & Safety issues takes place with the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ (OHAR).

Carry out reviews, audits and inspections of health and safety within the Company, make recommendations to remedy any defects found and provide factual reports in conjunction with the Head of HSEQ (OHAR).

Assist the Head of HSEQ (OHAR) in ensuring that Line Management fulfils their responsibility for health and safety by providing guidance and support to all levels within the organisation.

Assist the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ (OHAR) on the drawing up and implementation of Safe Systems of Work, Safety Plans and the provision and use of appropriate equipment across the division.

Assist the Head of HSEQ and the Directors of the Company on achievable standards that can be measured and that will improve the Health and Safety standards of the Company.

Recognise the need for training and assist in implementing courses as required by the Head of HSEQ, both internal and externally. Work in collaboration with the training department.

Advise the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ / Director for Health and Safety immediately of any fatalities, major injuries, dangerous occurrences or any incident likely to cause the attention of the HSE, or other public bodies.

Assist management teams in carrying out accident investigation when requested, including the compilation of accident reports and assist managers with recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitor the implementation of recommendations and report findings to Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ (OHAR).

Compile monthly briefs of their activities & movements for the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ.

Carry out all health and safety tasks as directed by the Kier Facilities Management Head of HSEQ (OHAR) required to maintain Kier Group Health & Safety standards.

Where appropriate and applicable participate in the work of Health & Safety committees and joint consultations affecting the workforce.

Promote and, where appropriate, participate in Health & Safety training programmes to assist in safety consciousness at all levels within the organisation and specifically advise management on ways to develop safe working conditions as directed by the Head of HSEQ and / or Director responsible for Health and Safety.

Assist the Head of HSEQ (OHAR) in ensuring that management are supplied with the necessary health and safety information to maintain safe working practices to modern day legal standards and industry best practice, (this includes site registers, local campaigns, awareness posters etc).

Keep up-to-date with modern Health & Safety management systems, techniques, new legislation, codes of practice and other guidance.

Attend Health & Safety training courses as directed by the Head of HSEQ / or Director responsible for Health and Safety.

Attend regular meetings with the relevant management teams for the purpose of advising them of the level of Health & Safety management being achieved throughout the operating company.
Recommend areas for improvement where necessary in conjunction with the Head of HSEQ (OHAR)
Stop any job, task, activity where there is a potential for personal injury to Kier employees or any other person including potential environmental impacts and property damage. Stop any job, task, activity where there is a breach of statutory duty.
