A prestigious Financial Services organisation based in Canary Wharf is looking for an Environment and Release Manager to join their Infrastructure Provisioning and Environments Management (IPEM) Team. This is a small team and the successful candidate will need to have the passion and drive to improve the offerings of this team as well as being able to work on their own initiative.


What does this job involve ?
*Manage and effect change on development and test environments.
*The establishment and ongoing management and control of the inventory of environments.
*Establishing and subsequently improv ing an 'off-the shelf' approach to the provision of development and testing environments for projects - resulting in a highly responsive capability to provide infrastructure against project needs.
*Working closely with the Infrastructure Provisioning Lead (IPL) to ensure all project environment requirements are clearly understood and scheduled inline with project timescales and opportunities for cross project synergies are identified and implemented.
*Acceptance of all new environments from Infrastructure Provisioning Leads upon project closure.
*Ensuring the quality of the infrastructure solution delivered to projects meets the specification, standard, budget and timescale required.
*Escalation of all environment issues before they become a problem to the project(s).
*Taking responsibility for performance improvement and simplification in the provision of IS infrastructure for in house projects by outsource infrastructure suppliers by:-
* Defining and improving best-practice approach and processes.
*Ensuring that there are adequate processes and procedures to ensure that development and test environments are provided to projects in an efficient and timely manner; ensuring project teams are aware of and comply with infrastructure process and standards.
*Relentlessly driving suppliers to ensure that environments are managed efficiently and that the knowledge of the environments is maintained.
*Determining and capitalising synergies across projects.
*At a technical level, managing the various outsource supplier contracts to establish a competitive space for the provision of infrastructure resource to projects without exposing the organisation's estate to additional risk.
*Technical Operations - integration with release management and support and maintenance of environments.
*Work within the processes, procedures and standards of the IT division.
*Share experiences and le arning points with the other members of IPEM.


Which Essential & Desirable skills are required?

Essential
Technical Expertise
*Experience of transforming IS development and test environments to industry best practice
*Significant infrastructure management experience running live operations.
*Broad technology knowledge, covering all major infrastructure platforms and service lines.
*Technical ability to identify and the confidence to recommend the synergising of cross project infrastructure solutions.
*Experience of managing outsource infrastructure, including offshore.
*Experience of working in a large standards-based corporate environment.
*Experience of working in projects and the project lifecycle.
*Knowledge of any of; Utility Computing based on UNIX non-global zones, Windows ESX and Oracle VM, Bladelogic, Subversion, Maven, Oracle DBA
