Financial Accountant Top Law Firm

Renowned Law firm in South West London has a vacancy for a Financial Accountant in their finance team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, this is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant who has compliance experience, ideally ensuring Solicitors Accounting Rules Compliance and preparing the LLPs annual accounts. This role comprises financial processes, controls and annual accounts.
Key responsibilities Financial Accountant
Financial Processes, Controls and Improvements
Ensuring that the financial controls deployed are strong, reflected in the office manual, communicated to all staff and carried out in practice.
Review and update the Finance section of the intranet.
Training staff at all levels in accounts procedures, the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and process improvements.
Acting on annual SAR audit findings to find ways of eliminating breaches in future.
Advising partners on ways of improving departments interaction with accounts and in ways of improving profitability.
Overseeing reconciliation of key nominal ledger control accounts.
Reconciliation of pension deductions and payments made to staff pension schemes.
Annual Accounts
Prepare Excel spreadsheets in respect of the Firms annual accounts and seeing these through to completion, including review of doubtful debts and disbursements and valuation of unbilled WIP.
Prepare schedules of staff bonuses for completion by heads of dep artment, accompanied as required by analyses of fee earner performance.
Keeping the fixed asset register up to date and correctly applying depreciation policies.
Have primary role in preparing schedules for and dealing with the auditors on both their SAR and annual accounts audit visits.
Other tasks
Completion and submission of the quarterly VAT returns
Ad hoc reporting and data extraction via SQL or VBA macros for e.g. new partner financial data, Board information requests.
Assistance in the preparing journals for month end close.
Production of statistics for surveys and tenders.
Assistance with reconciling matter ledgers and resolving fee-earner queries, e.g. re VAT, foreign exchange, matter ledgers etc.
Releasing BankLine payments and acting as administrator of online banking software.
Regular review of nominal ledgers and correction of posting errors.
Salary
35 000 to 40 000 plus 20 days holiday, pension and healthcare.
