Description of the job
As Lead Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT) Engineer your primary roles will be to approve repair justifications and manage technically a small Daily Repairs Team of engineers of varying experience. In addition you will be responsible for the personal performance and development of individuals within the team. You will also be expected to contribute to the continuing development of the F&DT processes used for repairs and to support the development of generic repair solutions.

Your skills
You will require an in-depth knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance principles and their application within an aircraft structural repair environment. The position requires signatory status at approval level; where this is not the case the candidate will have the experience and capability to attain this within a short period.

A robust knowledge and understanding of certification documentation and maintenance procedures is highly desirable. You will be performing and reviewing fatigue, crack growth and residual strength analyses of metallic repair solutions and will ideally have a working knowledge of Airbus policies, methods, data, and tools to ensure that all repairs conform to the relevant airworthiness requirements. Increasingly, the role will include the F&DT assessment of repairs to composite structures.

You will be expected to fully understand the nature of any repair and, through discussion with the Chief of Fatigue and liaison with the Static Stress and Design engineers within the repairs team, ensure that the F&DT analyses performed are appropriate and that all relevant implications of the repair have been considered.

Competence with PC based programs is a requirement and experience with mainframe computer systems would be of significant benefit.

As Lead F&DT Engineer you will be expected to work in an independent and proactive manner, offering constructive input to any repair situation. Additionally, you will be expected to support the repairs department in more global initiatives such as LEAN, and to ensure the continued advancement of the department to the benefit of the business. The role may include a transnational element, supporting the Airbus Repairs Knowledge Centre. You will have good communication skills, be a team player with a high regard for internal and external customers, and have an ability to deliver to tight timescales.
