Department

The HR team provides a first class service to the business, offering strategic HR business advice at the business partner level and quality support services in the full range of HR functions through specialist teams such as learning & development, resourcing, reward, employee relations advice, payroll, systems and HR administration.

Role Purpose

To work with the HR Manager for Trainees to provide a high level of both HR operational support and HR advice to the trainee solicitors and trainers. The HR for Trainees team sits within the g lobal HR function.

Responsibilities

Trainee related

Trainee performance management: monitoring trainee review grades, coaching underperforming trainees, training referrals, and advising trainers on the review process and active performance management.

Absence management including overseeing absence reporting, monitoring trainee absence levels, OH referrals, liaising with the Benefits team on PHI applications, coaching trainers, and counselling trainees on their return to work.

Managing the trainee international secondment process. Responsibilities include assessing additional secondment requests, analysing and monitoring the busyness levels of London and the international offices, supervising the advertising of trainee secondments and collation of trainee feedback, selecting successful trainees, advising on outcomes and liaising with the Global Mobility team with regards to immigration requirements and secondment terms.

Supervising the trainee client secondment selection process.

Presenting and/or training on key processes

Advising trainees and trainers on policies and procedures.

Providing confidential guidance and career counselling.

Providing HR operational service to trainees and trainers.

Assisting with various trainee/graduate recruitment events (seat planning information evenings, LPC visits/drinks, insight week, vacation schemes, open days, university visits, training contract presentations, business skills games).

Non Trainee Related:

Responsibility for qualified lawyer secondment programmes: ISP (International Secondment Programme), GLF (Global Law Firm), JADE programme (Journey for Associate Development and Enrichment programme), and the International Lawyers for Africa Programme (ILFA). Responsibilities include assessing secondment requests, liaising with London HR teams and the international HR teams and offices with regards to capacity/manpowe r planning, advising HR colleagues on secondment process and terms, conducting secondee inductions, arranging and attending social events, and pastoral care of secondees.

Coordinating and monitoring London placements for German Referendares.

Providing secondment reports for the Global Markets Partner and other project work regarding associate development and secondment

General:

Answering ad-hoc internal/external HR queries.

Providing guidance to two HR/Resourcing Assistants

Liaising with internal and external contacts

Assisting HR Manager

Key Requirements

Graduate calibre, ideally CIPD qualified or similar certification

Good knowledge of current employment law particularly in relation to performance management and absence management

Coaching experience preferred

Ability to be flexible and work across a range of client groups

Excellent attention to detail, prioritisation and organisati onal skills

Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Proven ability to combine excellent technical knowledge with sound commercial judgment and to influence decisions

Resilient; able to understand that credibility has to be earned and may take time;

Collaborative team player with the ability to work in a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment

Proven ability to work well under pressure

Ability to work with diplomacy and tenacity, ability to take the lead to conclude decisions;demonstrates a can do attitude and is pro-active and professional in client contact.
