The Company:

Northern Gas Networks own the gas pipeline distribution network and are responsible for distributing gas to the homes and businesses across the north of England, an area covering West, East & North Yorkshire, the North East and northern Cumbria.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen towork as part of our Property team as a Junior Surveyor, reporting directly to the Property Manager.The Property team is responsible for the management of the companys landholdings together with property rights.

The role holder will be required to:

Assist the Property Manager in providing a comprehensive service to network in acquiring land and easements to extend and maintain the distribution network.

Provide professional advice on land, property, planning and environmental issues relating to all capital projects.

Represent the network with external stakeholders ensuring minimal adverse publicity and environmental impact of schemes within statutory, regulatory and budgetary constraints.

Valuation and settlement of all subsequent claims for losses and damage arising from the extension and presence of the gas distribution network.

Support the provision of a comprehensive service to the company in acquiring land and easements to extend and maintain the network including valuation advice and the settlement of claims.

Assist in negotiating compensation and provide advice on appropriate and effective reinstatement of agricultural land following the construction of projects.

Assist in the monitoring of Land Agents and Panel Solicitors

Closely liaise with network departments to ensure correct planning and programming of projects leading to timely delivery of schemes.Liaison with the legal teams regarding completion of easements and land acquisition to ensure early possession of sites.

Assist with any other aspects of property works which may be appropriate i.e. operational property management advice, lease renewals, rent reviews and any acquisitions or disposals of property assets.

Carry out Property reviews, and identifying any surplus property assets etc.

The Person:

The role holder should be either; be qualified or has experience in Estate Management, Agriculture or another property discipline (or at least training towards a professional qualification).

A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in dealing with property issues for capital projects.

The role also requires liaison with a range of individuals and organisations both within and outside the Company and therefore good communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

Good negotiating skills and a sound commercial approach are essential requirements, together with the commitment and resilience to deal with a heavy and varied workload.

The ability to brief and co-ordinate a wide range of professional consultants, including Land Agents, Surveyors and Solicitors is essential on a continual and regular basis.

Any knowledge of the Gas Act and NRSWA 1991 would be an advantage.
