Who we are looking for

PwC require a VAT Manager providing support to the Senior Manager to produce PwCs own VAT and other indirect tax returns, and provide indirect tax advice and planning to the Firms practice and support staff.

The team currently consists of the Head of Firms VAT, Assistant Manager and 2 VAT clerks. This position reports into the Head of Firms VAT and will take on the People Manager responsibility for the team.

Key Objectives and responsibilities of this role will include the following:

Manage the team p reparing PwCs own VAT returns and review the returns prior to submission. Provide indirect tax advice to the business as required. Provide support in meetings/correspondence with HMRC. Establish rapport with the VAT team and colleagues whereby advice is willingly sought, appreciated and acted upon.

The position will be based in the Docklands office, but at least 20 of time is likely to be spent at Embankment Place, with occasional travel to the other London offices.



About the role

The Firms VAT team look after PwCs own VAT affairs. It ensures that the PwC UK Firm meets its indirect tax obligations on a timely basis for all its legal entities in the UK and abroad. Also, it supports other internal functions and the practice, to minimise the risk of transactions carried out by the Firm being treated incorrectly for VAT, both in the UK and overseas.

Clients would include, but not be limited to; the PwC client facing teams (reviewing engagement letters and deciding correct VAT treatment of supply), Internal Transaction Processing (acting as back up to the VAT clerks on ad hoc queries) and IT (raising Change Management Requests for VAT changes to the finance system and scoping requirements for developers). You will support Facilities/Procurement, Office of General Counsel, Company Secretarial and the Firms Tax team acting as subject matter expert on VAT.



Requirements

Key skills:Technical VAT knowledge, the Law and its application; in particular place of supply rules for the cross border supply of services Accounting knowledge Skill in managing and obtaining the best from people. Team worker - have to liaise closely with exisiting team and others in finance a nd the practice generally Confident - convince others of the merits of the advice being proffered Ability to work under pressure - juggling priorities and meeting deadlines are features of the role Ability to initiate action - willingness to look for risk areas and follow through where necessary requiring self-motivation. Persistence - doesnt accept the easy way. Ethical - the Firms VAT reputation should not be put at risk. Good communicator - must be able to convey VAT technical language in laymans terms Questioning - fully explore situations to offer best advice in all the circumstances

Good standard of written English: reports of meetings and file notes, letters and formal proposal reports may all be required

Key experience:

Possess broad technical VAT knowledge, gained from advising in a professional firm at manager level; or from working in a related industry role; or a wide range of business experience in HMRC at a senior level. Experience of computerised a ccounting system operating in a large services organisation. Staff management experience. Qualifications:A VAT qualification would be an advantage.
