This position of Microbiologist has the responsibility to support our research and development in respect of ourwater based metalworking technologies in order to reduce/ minimize the impact of microbial issues in relation to both their performance and life in use. These studies and proposal have to be in line with the latest HSSE legislation ,REACh and all others customers safety requirements
Responsibilities
To establish the European Microbiology Strategy to answer to the Customer/Market demands in line with the CoE R&D Leaders indication (actual needs and future trends),To assure the microbiology support to development in respect of Houghton rules To ensure the acquisition of technical information related to microbiology, and increase the team knowledge (internal and external sources)To align the microbiological CoE to the global Houghton procedures and project managementMaintenance of the culture collection (bacteria and fungi purchased from an outside source that are used for the Circulation tank tests). These cultures are required to be kept in good condition to ensure we are producing meaningful results when testing the bio-resistance of new development fluids Assessment of biocide from alternative suppliers/new biocide chemistry/novel non-biocide methods of treatment Assessment of new microbiological methods e.g. Mycobacterium testing, Endotoxin testing Periodic meetings with Biocide suppliers to discuss new chemistries, current and future legislation (main contact for Biocidal Product Directive issues) Membershipof the International Biodeterioration Research Group Society (IBRG) which is a gathering of academic and industrial scientists who look at industrial microbiological problems with a view to producing new test methods for assessment (numerous biocide manufacturers are members of this organisation, and again it is a good forum for exchanging ideas.Council Membership of the International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation Society (IBBS) due to industrial background (no other microbiologist in our industry has been asked). The Society is a gathering of academic and industrial scientists (a good forum for exchanging ideas on industrial problems of BiodeteriorationAuthoring and co-authoring of papers related to microbiology in our industryEducation, Training & Experience
