Description of the job
Analysis and validation of metallic, hybrid and composite structures for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance. Ensure safe operation of Airbus aircraft with respect to structural integretory and operational effectiveness.
Analyse and validate composite & hybrid structures for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance according to validated Airbus methods . Ensure adherence to airworthiness regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines. Define, interpret and validate tests. Interface and communicate with relevant stakeholders. Provide relevant input to design for the creation of drawings for manufacture. Provide stress analysis for the repair/acceptance of damaged structures. Perform monitoring/guidance/support of Sub-contarcting firms and RSP's that are providing structure analysis facilities for Airbus.
Tasks
The role involves the fatigue and damage tolerance assessment of repairs to metallic aircraft structures. Fatigue, crack growth and residual strength analyses will be performed to assess repair solutions and will use Airbus methods and computer programs to ensure that the repair conforms to all relevant airworthiness requirements. Increasingly, the role will include the F&DT assessment of repairs to composite structures.
Your skills
A sound knowledge of structures, gained preferably in the aerospace industry, is essential. An understanding of aircraft production methods and processes would be beneficial. As a minimum, a good understanding of fatigue is expected, a basic understanding of damage tolerance would be advantageous. Previous experience of F&DT analysis will benefit the candidate greatly. Competence with PC based programs is a requirement and experience with mainframe computer systems would be of significant use.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully understand the nature of any repair and, through discussion with the Lead Fatigue or Chief of Fatigue, and liaison with the Static Stress and Design engineers within the repairs team, ensure that the F&DT analyses performed are appropriate and that all relevant implications of the repair have been considered.
The successful candidate will also be expected to develop quickly and to work in an independent and proactive manner, offering constructive input to any repair situation. They will own their development plan and seek to attain a level of signatory delegation commensurate with their experience and capability. Additionally, they will be expected to support the repairs department in initiatives such as LEAN, to ensure the continued advancement of the department to the benefit of the business. The role may include a transnational element, supporting the Airbus Repairs Knowledge Centre. They will be a team player with a high regard for internal and external customers.
