Job brief/purpose
An information scientist to support the on-line collaboration tools in Arup, including liaison with developers and users.
Relationships
The post-holder will report to the Dean of Arup University. Operationally, they will support the activities of the Knowledge Team, Arup University, Networks. They will be part of a small team, of which there would be three digital content managers, who are led by Adam Pope.
Excellent working relationships with various people and groups in the firm are essential, particularly the Knowledge Team, led by Dominique Poole Avery, Region Knowledge Activists, Skills Network leaders, the IT teams.
Responsibilities
Work with on-line collaboration systems to publish or update online content for the intranet, Support the Content Manager in liaising with designers and web developers when new products are being developedProvide support to users, including training Continuously improve the user experience, accessibility and information architecture Support the Knowledge team with internal team management tasks such as meeting coordination and minutesBe flexible to take on different tasks as needed by the teamKeep own skills up to dateQualifications
Minimum 2.1 first degree. Masters degree qualified in a relevant fieldRequirements
Essential Technical skills:Web technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript, ASP.NET (VB), PHP, WordPress Databases technologies: Access, MySQL, Oracle, diagramming using Visio (ERDs, DFDs) MS Office: advanced skills in Sharepoint, Excel and Powerpoint would be advantageous Information management and knowledge management concepts and approaches Interaction design, user-centred design methodology, usability/accessibility standards and guidelines Experience in managing software development as part of a teamLikely to be working towards a professional qualification.Other Essential skills:
Excellent written and oral communication skills with customersAccuracy/attention to detailGood teamwork and time-management skillsDisposition

Environment
Arup has a rich, thriving, design environment which relies heavily on collaboration tools. These include communities of practice (Skills Networks), Arup People, Arup Projects, learning management systems. These require extensive support for the firm of 10,000 in 90 offices. Additionally, significant changes to our global systems are being contemplated, which would create significant development projects.
