The Solicitors Regulation Authority sets professional standards for solicitors in England and Wales and regulates solicitors, their law practices and staff in the public interest. It is also a licensing body for alternative business structures.
Our Legal and Enforcement team deals with proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the High Court and other civil and criminal courts. It also delivers advice on legal and evidential matters to other functions across the organisation. Your role will involve providing high quality advice and dealing with all matters in an outcomes-focused and risk-based way.
As a Legal Adviser, you may be required to make formal decisions upon evidential and public interest tests. Where you become involved in conducting disciplinary or other proceedings, you will need to act in the public interest and ensure cases proceed in a timely way .You may be required to conduct proceedings yourself or instruct external lawyers and work closely with them.
A qualified solicitor or barrister, you will have experience of litigation in private practice or providing legal advice in a regulatory environment and a knowledge of the Solicitors Act 1974, and the SRA Handbook. Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills are key, as is a commitment to work as part of a team and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
