A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as an Editorial Assistant in the mathematics team at the London office of Springer Science+Business Media, a leading global publisher of books and journals and the most prestigious book publisher in mathematics.
The Editorial Assistants primary role will be to provide support to the Senior Editor and the Editor in managing and growing the books and journals programme.
The vacancy is aimed at a candidate interested in starting a career in academic publishing.
Main Duties
Author management - maintain regular contact with authors in order to manage manuscript delivery to agreed budgets; respond to general author enquiries e.g. author guidelines, royalty queries, copyright and requests for permission. Organise peer-reviewing of manuscripts.Content management maintain up-to-date information for books and journals in Springers internal databases (including Sharepoint). Contracts prepare book and journal contracts and arrange signatures of same.Payments arrange payment of fees for Series Editors, Journal Editors-in-Chief, reviewers, freelancers and advance author royalties and maintain accurate records. Book production - prepare manuscripts for production and liaise with the production team throughout the production process. Edit/write book marketing text for back cover.Orders arrange complimenta ry book copies, bulk orders, journal special issues etc.Conferences - coordinate with editorial and marketing on the organisation and set-up of Springer stands at external conferences and the dispatch of relevant materials.Liaise with other Springer departments (e.g., production, sales and marketing, information technology, finance), as necessary, to provide and obtain information relevant to the publishing programme.Other administrative support as required.Person Specification
