Description of the job
An opportunity has arisen at our Airbus Filton site for a Lead Composites Stress Engineer to work within the Wing & Pylon Centre of Excellence on our latest aircraft programme, the A350 XWB.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading static stress activities for defined wing components or work packages and the role will involve driving the development of both metallic and composite designs towards an optimized solution. The role will be based within an integrated project team and it will include the technical management of supply chain activities.
Tasks
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the following:
Ensuring structural integrity for your direct area of responsibility, including working with F&DT colleagues to ensure that Fatigue & Damage Tolerance requirements are met
Providing technical leadership
Technical management of suppliers
Carrying out stress analysis activities to assess and support the optimisation of design solutions for a whole range of tasks, potentially from concept and structural development through to certification
Operate as a stress signatory, (this may require development to signatory level)
Liaison with the Methods and Data group in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments
Reporting and escalating critical technical issues
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency
Project management of tasks, as and when required
Management of interfaces with adjacent work packages or sub-assemblies.
Your skills
As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:
Experience working as a Stress Engineer within the aircraft industry, including the design and analysis of metallic structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods
A sound understanding of the fundamental methods for the stress analysis of aircraft wing structures, including FE analysis, and the ability to apply these methods to the assessment and solution of structural analysis problems
A proactive attitude and the ability to work in a very dynamic environment
A good understanding of aircraft production methods and processes
The ability to work well within a multifunctional/transnational team environment
As a team player you should have a high regard for internal and external customers, whilst maintaining aircraft integrity as the over-riding principle
Good leadership skills
English: Negotiation level
