Due to ongoing growth and redevelopment Thales are looking for an Oracle Applications DBA specialist to join their team in Cheadle, this is an excellent opportunity to join a pivotal team responsible for supporting the nationwide Oracle databases for Thales UK. Working on Oracle DBA, Oracle RDMS, Unix, Linux and Oracle ERP in a small, dynamic and professional team this role offers the successful candidate challenge and reward in equal measure together with the opportunity to grow and develop within a successful market leading company.

The role:

Provide consultation and technical expertise regarding database management systems (DBMS), database management tools, access methods and vendor-provided database management software.
Develop logical and physical database designs and conduct database design reviews.
Develop and document database and system administration strategies and tools.
Install, configure, test and maintain application databases and DBMS products and tools.
Configuration and Change Control for instance management and patch application.
Develop, deploy and manage database security including integrity, backup, recovery, access, and changes.
Monitor use and develop & deploy performance tuning methods to optimise database and DBMS performance.
Interface with data analysts and modellers, data administrators, application developers, technical support organizations, computing architects and product vendors.
Must possess a broad knowledge of information technology topics (e.g., data architecture, data replication and warehousing, information access methods, database connectivity, performance monitoring and tuning, operating system administration).
Demonstrate the ability to translate business requirements into optimally performing database designs.
Advise and guide Application teams on the utilisation of Oracle best-practices.
Assist with technical problem resolution.
Cross-train team members in Oracle E-Business suite.
Assist in offering technical support to developers and other technical team members.
Installation and maintenance of multiple Oracle Applications instances in a project and production environment.
Travel as required to UK to client sites to assist with project delivery.
Contribute to Client Architectural standards throughout Thales-IS.
Working on leading edge Oracle Applications Solutions.
Assist in providing out-of-hours support for clients, sometimes at short notice.
Assist in developing the Application Management Services support architecture

Skills, experience & qualifications required:

Proven Experience of working with Oracle RDMS - modern versions and version 10
Practical application of working with UNIX / LINUX
Experience of working on Oracle Applications and Oracle ERP is desirable
Installation, administration, tuning, patching, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Proficiency in timely cloning, patching, and maintenance of multiple instances
Demonstrable skills designing solutions that involve RAID, replication, RAC, Data Guard, and related technology
Willingness to support the demands of the project team in a timely fashion
Ability to:
design and deploy backup and recovery methods
diagnose and resolve complex problems involving all levels of the technology stack
design system architectures and support recommendations
select and size appropriate architectures based on hardware knowledge
perform detailed assessments and provide high-quality written reports
effectively articulate new directions, technologies, and strategies to non-DBAs.
