About our client
Monitor is a non- departmental public body established in 2004 to authorise and regulate NHS foundation trusts. It sets high standards for trusts which want to become foundation trusts and monitors them once they are authorised, making sure their leaders are focused on delivering good quality care and strong finances. If problems arise, Monitor takes action to ensure trusts do everything they can to fix them. The Health and Social Care Bill, which has just completed its passage through Parliament, gives Monitor a new role as sector regulator for health care. Monitor will license providers of NHS-funded care and will influence how they work and how they are paid for delivering the services that patients need. Monitor will protect against anti-competitive behaviour which is not in patients' interests and, working with commissioners, will play a role in enabling integrated care and ensuring that essential services are always available even if a local hospital gets into financial difficulty. Maki ng a difference for patients is the driver for everything Monitor does
