ER Specialist
Overview
Department Purpose and Structure
The HR team at Allen & Overy provides a first class service to the business, offering strategic HR business advice at the business team level and quality support services in the full range of HR functions through specialist teams such as learning & development, resourcing, reward, employee relations advice, payroll, systems and HR administration.
The ER team provides comprehensive advice and support to HR and the business in relation to employment law, policy and employee relations. In addition, the team is responsible for setting and meeting the firm's global objectives in relation to Diversity and Inclusion and also provides operational support in the delivery of key annual processes (such as the annual performance review) as well as organisational projects.
Role Purpose
To provide ER advice and support to the business and assist the HRBTs in the delivery of key organisational projects.
Requirements
CIPD qualified or similar certification
Excellent knowledge of current employment law with proven ability to run ER processes such as disciplinaries and grievances
Ability to be flexible and work across a wide range of client groups
Excellent attention to detail, prioritisation and organisational skills
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to combine excellent technical knowledge with sound commercial judgment and to influence decisions
Resilient; able to understand that credibility has to be earned in this environment and may take time
Collaborative team player with the ability to work in a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment
Key responsibilities
Employee Relations
Initial point of contact for HRBTs in relation to all ER and policy-related queries
Manage all grievance and disciplinary cases across London office
Advise HRBTs on performance management issues and provide support to Partners and Managers in processes such as informal and formal performance management meetings
Compose all formal notifications to employees, in liaison with the HR Administration Team
Review regular reports for the London office from the HR Administration team and take necessary action as required, in conjunction with HRBTs (e.g. long term sickness absence, review of flexible working patterns)
Liaise with employees, line managers, occupational health and the Reward team regarding long term sickness absence (in conjunction with the HRBTs)
Manage the flexible working process for employees (in conjunction with the HRBTs)
Manage the probationary review process for employees (in conjunction with the HRBTs)
Provide full range of ER services to Group Managers in relation to PAs
Annual processes
Provide support to the HRBTs during the annual performance review process
Provide support to the Reward team and HRBTs during the salary review process including assisting with the collation of market data for support staff salary review
Policy development
Assist the ER & Diversity Manager and Senior ER Manager in the development and implementation of employment policy and documentation changes
Diversity and inclusion
Provide support to ER & Diversity Manager with the design and execution of diversity initiatives, which may include research into best practice, interaction with internal staff networks, external networking and attending or organising events where required.
