Food and Beverage Service Assistant
About the role
Great food doesnt simply appear. And outstanding service doesnt happen by accident. Its dedicated, hardworking, conscientious people that make a good experience an unforgettable National Trust one. People like you. Joining the team here at our popular restaurant at Quebec House youll present food and serve our customers. Whether its a hot meal, a home-baked cake or a refreshing, hits-the-spot cup of tea, youll make sure everythings looking good and properly priced. Yes, it can be hard work, with lots of customers to serve, but thats the beauty of working in a great team: youre never on your own and theres always someone to turn to for support. We also appreciate that you have a life outside of work, and although you are asked to work alternate weekends and some bank holidays we dont do split shifts or evening work here. This means that as well as enjoying a rewarding job, youll have an altogether better work-life balance.
About you
You dont enjoy standing around, and youd much rather be busy than bored. You also share our love of food, and you enjoy nothing more than empty plates and happy faces. Youll always have a smile for our customers, and nothings ever too much trouble. If youve worked in a kitchen or catering team before, thats great, and youd ideally have a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. But for us, its more important that you have bags of enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
If trainings your cup of tea, you can have as much as you like. It could be that you want to build up your people skills, or learn about how things like stock and portion control and its impact on profit. The amount of training, and what youd like to be trained in, is completely up to you. Well even help you gain recognised professional qualifications, like a Level 2 Catering and Hospitality NVQ, if thats what you want to do.
Incredibly rewarding
From amazing places to helpful colleagues to great benefits, we want work to be a pleasure. As well as giving you free admission to all our incredible places (thats you and your family), youll enjoy a helpful 20 off at our shops, cafes and restaurants, 25 days holiday (pro rata for part-time), pension scheme and flexible working. Theres also MY Discounts, a brilliant scheme that gives you exclusive discounts with hundreds of retailers and big brands. But theyre just the benefits we can tell you about here. Theres lots more at www.nationaltrustrewardsandbenefits.org.uk
About us
We love great food here at the National Trust. Youll see it in the produce we grow. In the fresh, local, seasonal ingredients we use. In the smiles on our faces not to mention the special places we work in, places like Quebec House
Quebec:
Of Tudor origin, Quebec is a grade 1 listed three-storey house built of red brick and Kentish ragstone with a clay-tile roof. It is located on the eastern edge of the picturesque village of Westerham, a designated Conservation Area set within the North Downs AONB, Greensand Ridge Special Landscape and Metropolitan Green Belt. Its current appearance is as a result of a number of alterations over the centuries and the building is an important example of a gentry house of architectural and historical significance.
In the grounds of Quebec House is a largely untouched Tudor coach-house that contains a comprehensive exhibition telling the of story General Wolfes life and his victory at Quebec. The coach-house is one of the few buildings in England known to retain bee-boles; wall niches to house bee skeps, whilst the Tudor cellars of the main house still show traces of in-door bee-boles used for over-wintering.
Quebec House has the leading collection of Wolfe memorabilia in the world. Artefacts from the Flemish dressing-gown in which General Wolfes remains were returned to England, his field-canteen and other family items are displayed along with a thorough representation of the art and literature inspired by his heroic death.
