The role advertised is based at the Airbus in the UK Centre of Excellence in Filton, near Bristol. The site is responsible for engineering research, technology and wing design, including aircraft landing gear and fuel systems. The manufacture and sub-assembly of systems and components for the Airbus aircraft wings also takes place at Filton, as well as A400M wing final assembly and equipping.

Description of the job
The Wing and Pylon Design Centre of Excellence (TWE) require a Lead Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer to join them as part of the multidisciplinary team currently working on the Sharklet A320 Project.
Tasks
In this role, you can expect to:
- Lead the F&DT analysis of composite and metallic aircraft structures using standard fatigue, crack growth and residual strength calculations;
- Assess and develop design solutions using standard hand and computer methods;
- Work as part of the Single Aisle project teams and have particular emphasis on all issues related to the control surfaces (moveables) on the outer wing at Sharklet modification standard;
- Liaise with the Methods and Data group in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments;
- Provide leadership, in respect of airworthiness regulations and requirements, to the rest of the team as well as advise and support the static stress and design groups for the continuous product development activity, though out the life of the product;
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Your skills
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- Experience working as an F&DT Engineer, preferably within the aircraft industry, involved in fatigue analysis of metallic structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods;
- A in depth understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for fatigue and crack growth and the ability to develop these methods and assess structural analysis problems;
- A good understanding of aircraft production methods and processes;
- Ability to work well within a multifunctional team/transnational team environment;
- High regard for internal and external customers, whilst maintaining aircraft integrity as the over-riding principle;
- The ability to demonstrate proven leadership skills;
- Experience of PC and mainframe computer systems and good knowledge of the application of FE analysis;
- Strong communication skills including English on both verbal and written levels.
