The Financial Times are currently looking for a PHP Technical Architect to joinour team.

There has been significant growth in product development with this trend set to continue. This means more implementation teams, doing more work in an expanding technology ecosystem. These teams need a strong PHP Technical Architect tohelp ensure they are designing and delivering the right solution, to the desired level of quality and that it nestles into the overall technolog y group strategy.

Architecture and Engineering maybe separate functions, but day-to-day they work hand-in-hand and are part of the same delivery team with the same goals and objectives. The Technical Architect is often (but not exclusively) the technical leader of the team. They are certainly a hands-on contributor who is able to author code to at least the same standards as are asked of the team as well as steer design and architecture. They are also an expert in agile development and able to mentor and coach their team in using best practices and tools.

A Technical Architect will lead by example and quality should be at the forefront of everything they do.

This particular role has a focus on PHP architecture, development (both client and server) and delivery, at scale with high availability. Responsibility will include understanding, improving and maintaining existing websites as well as new website product development, all in the context of the FT tech nology strategy.

Skills & Experience

? University degree educated in the field of Computer Science/Engineering/Information Systems.

?Minimum of 2 years of engineering at a Senior level and 5 years engineering overall

? Must haveled a Technical team (s)

? Comfortable with systems integration architectural patterns

? A very strong background in common web programming technologies, especially PHP and associated frameworks

? Comfortable in a Linux/Unix (but not exclusively so) environment

? A thorough understanding of agile development and delivery

Preferred familiarity with: -

o Content management and publishing systems, E-commerce systems, Search technologies, Client-side technologies, Software as a Service, API development

? An appreciation of platform architecture and its relationship with software architecture
