Network Operations Engineer

Summary &

Purpose of Role:

Provide technical support for the networks that deliver services to the companiescustomers ensuring that networks are secure and available. If a fault does exist resolve the problem as swiftly as possible.

Support the wider team to develop and deliver cost effective connectivity services. This may include working directly with customers or providing support into the bid process for prospective customers.

The company operates diverse networks the technology employed may include LTE, WiFi, point to point wireless as well as fixed line.

Areas of Responsibility Include:

Primary Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Carry out day to day network administration tasks to ensure that the network elements are operating as expected. Investigate and resolve any anomalies to ensure that the network continues to operate as expected.

Work with other departments to ensure that any changes to the network are robustly tested, and implemented with appropriate care.

Ensure that change control procedures are adhered to.

Respond to fault reports in a timely manner aiming to resolve any customer impacting faults in as short a timeframe as sensibly possible. This may include the need to work unsoc iable hours and/or participate in the on call rota.

Develop and enhance monitoring and management capability.

Develop and enhance the security of the network.

Work with vendors and other departments to ensure that equipment is maintained in line with industry best practice.

Develop and enhance the knowledge base within the company, ensuring that learning is shared appropriately within the organisation.

Ensure that documentation is kept up to date to reflect the current network configuration.

Qualifications & Experience

Demonstrab le track record working in 24/7 operations team

Experience and practical skills are as important as formal qualifications

Good knowledge of IT Systems

Thorough understanding and practical knowledge of IP based protocols

Ability to plan, configure and maintain networks based on a variety of network devices such as Juniper/Cisco

Significant practical experience in Unix or other variants

Exposure to mobile communications core network would be an advantage

ISP knowledge and experience

Demonstrable problem solving skills

Familiar and comfortable with MPLS, BGP, VPIN, ISIS, DNS, Web server, Radius, AAA, DHCP, routing/switching SNMP.

A full driving licence is essential for this post.
