Cisco Network Engineer ( CCDP or CCDA) for a major UK IT managed services company, Heathrow.

Up to 45k/50k (pa) base plus bonus and benefits

NOTE: This is a fixed term contract for 6 months and all candidates must have a CCNP or CCDA at least

To deliver all Network related projects as a part of the team on the BA Managed Service account. This includes all aspects related to the project i.e. project management, budget control, consultancy, simple designs, infrastructure, hardware and software configuration, installation, cabling, documentation, related drawings and customer i nteraction. These projects could be located anywhere in the UK.
Key Result Areas* Understand and confirm project requirements * Pre-Build, Commission, Inspect and Test Network hardware * Provide small and medium network designs * Control of project's related budget activities * Report on project progress to Management, and /or BA as required * Convene technical meetings, document and follow up on actions * Accept and manage KITE requests for network related projects including Moves Adds and Changes * Utilise project management tools to provide high level project management plans and schedules * Provide consultancy for installation of equipment, including Hardware specification, PDS design, Closet construction and facilities * Have an understanding of structured cabling design and installation standards * Understand BA's Health and Safety requirements, method statements and risk assessments * Attend project review meetings with BA * Liaise with the customer to ensure the correct requirements are being met. * Provide quotations for small and medium projects * Manage 3rd Party suppliers * Liaise with Network support engineers pre and post change * Amend change orders as and when required * Provide consultancy for project initialisation and feasibility * Provide detailed documentation and configuration information * Have an understanding of British Airways IT applications and company departments * Analyse risk and impact of changes on the British Airways business * Raise, schedule, implement and track Change Requests for all network changes * Audit installations to ensure standards of cabling are adhered to * Ensure the asset database is updated when applicable * Abide by and maintain knowledge of airport regulations and procedures to maintain holdership/renewal of required passes and permits
Knowledge/Skills and Experience* In depth understanding of Ethernet technology * In depth understanding of Cisco Ethernet Routers and Switches * In depth understanding of LAN and network protocols TCP/IP, SNA IPARS and X25 * Understanding of Network Management tools including Spectrum and syslog * In depth understanding and use of LAN sniffers * Good understanding of PC networking applications * Good understanding of WAN technologies including ISDN, Kilostream, Megastream, Frame Relay, TDM, RS232, V35 and X21 * Good understanding of IP Telephony * Good understanding of wireless LAN * Good understanding of VPN * Project Management Skills. * Previous experience in: - A telecoms environment. * Strong Skills in: - Communication-oral and written - Diplomacy - Report writing - Chairing effective meetings - Negotiation - Customer service * PC literate-Microsoft * Comprehensive understanding of: - Internal processes and procedures - British Airways network - British Airways Data Centre architecture - Organisational structure - Internal software programs Systems Experience Required : * Microsoft Word/ Excel. * Visio Professiona l. * Cisco CATOS/IOS. * Lotus Notes - calendar, email * Internet/intranet * Microsoft Project Level of Training : * Proven track record of providing networking scopes * Understanding of Cisco product range, specifically 29xx, 3xxx, 65xx, 40xx * Competent with PC applications, Word, Excel, Visio, Autocad, E-mail etc. * CCNP/CCDA/CCDP accreditation
