Increased demand for water on a global scale is causing a resurgence of work for Mott MacDonald's Environment Division and Flood Modelling team. We have a crucial need for an experienced Senior Flood Modeller / Environmental Scientist with relevant skills, experience and qualifications in the field of numerical modelling and programming to work on immediate, important projects, based in our Bristol UK office.
An experienced Senior Flood Modeller, you will work closely with our existing teams of environmental modellers and engineers through the delivery of different modelling assignments to a range of clients. Meeting project milestones; technical quality, timely delivery and cost-effective outcomes are key. Some specialist model development experience will be required to meet specific project needs. This may involve modelling contributions to proposal writing and will be underpinned by your technical expertise, commercial acumen and project and people management skills. Much of your work will be on major international projects where 3D modelling of large river barrages and irrigation control structures is an essential component.
You will apply science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment and water resources (specifically flood modelling) to provide a systems approach to the analysis of environmental problems and quantitative analysis.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience:
- Professional qualifications in environmental science, civil engineering or other related disciplines including flood modelling
- Significant relevant experience in a flood modelling related role
- Relevant experience within a UK consultancy (desirable)
- Experience and knowledge of the implementation of flood risk assessment procedures (especially in relation to compliance with PPS25 in England and Wales) and a thorough understanding of Tuflow, ISIS and FEH
- A good GIS knowledge and further specialist qualifications in mathematics, fluid dynamics, hydrological sciences or hydro-dynamic modelling (highly desirable)
- Familiarity with the various modelling software systems that are commonly used, including knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages in different applications
- Experience in designing and developing bespoke software to interface with modelling software in respect of data manipulation (desirable)
- Conversant in project applications of modelling, ideally; hydraulic structure performance, river dynamics, flood control and management, thermal plume movement and dissipation and sediment transport
- Able to take effective responsibility for the project management and technical delivery on modelling assignments that may typically span across the water, flood management and irrigation sectors
- An outward facing approach is also important to effectively build customer relationships
- Relevant overseas experience (desirable)
You must be able to work from Bristol but also able to travel to other offices and sites in the UK and overseas as required.
