Job Title:Team Leader

Reports to: Business Manager

Responsible for: Employment Advisors and Employment Coaches

Purpose of the role

To supervise and support a team of Employment Advisors and Employment Coaches to enable them to provide high quality support and guidance to customers; manage a caseload of customers to enable them to overcome barriers to work and obtain sustainable employment.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Manage a team of Employment Advisors and Employment Coaches as directed by the Business Manager including conducting meaningful one to ones.

Ensure that staff are managing their diaries and caseloads effectively and support them to do so.

Ensure the team being managed are providing appropriate advice, guidance and support to customers to overcome barriers to employment and refer them to internal and external support.

From mentoring and/or employability sessions with our Volunteers and/or Employment Coaches to more specific support from CDG menu partners e.g. with debt, housing, substance use or mental health.

Ensure the team being managed are providing appropriate development of the customer action plan post referral, updating and developing during barrier busting and job search stage and agreeing in-work support.

Maintain an up to date working knowledge of the local labour market, training opportunities and relevant support agencies.

Maintain up to date knowledge of the benefit system and entitlements.

Ensure the team being managed are providing job search support and vacancy matching as appropriate.

Ensure the team being managed are arranging work experience placements and work trials (as appropriate) in liaison with the Employer Relationship Manager.

Ensure the team being managed are providing information, advice and guidance prior to commencement of employment and agree the terms of in-work support.

Ensure the team being managed hand over effectively to Customer Support Centre once customer starts employment.

General

Be aware of health and safety issues and, within the area of control, implement CDGs health and safety policies to maintain a safe environment, complying with health and safety and other legal requirements.

Ensure that the work undertaken is conducted to the highest professional standards.

Promote and implement all of CDGs policies and procedures.

Uphold and promote CDGs Equality of Opportunity and Diversity Policy in all aspects of the work and ensure they are understood and implemented.

Promote the culture and ethos of CDG.

Promote the CDG values of customer focus, innovation, integrity, people and performance.

Be aware of, promote and implement CDGs Quality and Information Security Management Systems.

To report to Line manager, or other appropriate person, in the event of awareness of bad practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Holding or able to achieve NVQ Level 3 IAG (or equivalent CDG is involved in the development of a new sector qualification for Employment Advisors).

Experience

Essential

Demonstrable experience of successfully working to targets within the employment/tra ining/recruitment sectors.

Experience of supporting and advising customers with complex and/or multiple barriers to success.

Desirable

Experience of supporting and supervising staff.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of the local labour market and local disadvantaged groups.

Understanding of employer expectations and career opportunities.

Desirable

Knowledge of benefit system and welfare to work programmes.

Skills

Demonstrable ability to lead a team within a customer facing environment.

Ability to lead a team to meet and exceed performance targets.

Good organisational skills and time management.

A motivational, flexible and problem solving approach.

Good communication and presentation skills at all levels, verbal and written.

Good IT skills with databases and Microsoft Office.
