Web Developers required with PHP or Drupal Skills. Based in Manchester!

We think our website is pretty cool. But were not satisfied with pretty cool. Were aiming for totally awesome. And thats where you come in.

We want our web presence to embody the social nature of our business, and weve started with the launch of a new careers site, join.thoughtworks.com. We still have a long way to go with this and other sites, with some aggressive deadlines (our heads of recruiting and marketing want the moon on a stick tomorrow). In addition, weve always been at the center of the discussion about the next big thing in custom software development -- so our own sites really need to embody this. Following on, over the next year, we will be building interactive communities with our clients, partners and friends. Oh, and we need to be much more mobile, refresh our brand, and go majorly social across all our sites and events.

Whats On Offer

This is an internal role, as a web developer, but youll still be part of a dynamic internal community of technologists who continue to change the way the world does software development, some of whom have written the books, given the keynotes at the conferences, and are the OSS key committers.

Youll be working as part of a growing team, building out a growing stable of websites. In addition to join.thoughtworks.com, our main site www.thoughtworks.com is supported by a variety of practitioner-focused microsites, including testing.thoughtworks.com and continuous-delivery.thoughtworks.com, alongside properties such aswww.facebook.com/thoughtworks,www.youtube.com/thoughtworks andwww.twitter.com/!/twthoughts. And thats not all! Soon your team is also taking on our thoughtworks-studios.com site for our Agile ALM products division.

Youll have stakeholders in various locations. Supporting a global business and helping us to develop our presence on the social web, there will be some need to travel, in particular to London.

Youll bring the following:Minimum four years web development and design experience ideally using PHP and/or DrupalStrong OO design and development skills, including experience of design patterns Experience of Agile Methodologies, such as Extreme Programming (XP) and ScrumProven experience with techniques such as test driven development and continuous integrationInspired front-end web development skills, including HTML4/5, CSS2/3 and JavaScript so that you can create pixel perfect code from website designs.Solid Drupal skills including knowledge of Commons, custom module development and theming. In an ideal world, youll support Drupal innovation and will be part of the Drupal community.Proven experience of working across the whole SDLC including analysis, design, coding and implementation of large scale custom built object-oriented applicationsDelivery experience within complex, enterprise environments using PHP, Java J2EE, C, Ruby on Rails a technical test will be involvedKnowledge of and passion for the latest and greatest in social web. From APIs to innovative patterns -- we want your input into our social strategy. An understanding of SEM and SEO considerations -- starting with great content...A design sensibility, including a solid knowledge of building web graphics, using design standards and optimizing assets. Some quality assurance skills and sensibilities -- you worry equally about usability, performance, and cross-browser testing.A slight obsession with doing the Web right. Our sites need to play well with others, and whether its Atom or OAuth, you have a clear picture of how it should be done.Any video editing skills would guarantee you a cookie as part of your hiring process.Interested? We love hearing from people who are passionate about the same things we are, and we think this is an awesome opportunity to join the team, influence our social web presence from our Manchester office, and join ThoughtWorks for a long career of opportunities beyond our website development.
