Job purpose

To manage and lead the Strategic Projects safety team covering approx 200m annual construction turnover.

Working with the line management within the Business Unit to improve standards of Health and Safety and act as a catalyst for cultural change throughout all levels of the organisation.



Responsibilities

Provide a source of competent advice on Health and Safety matters to the Strategic Projects Board and the organisation as a whole;Manage the Safety Team in the undertaking of inspections of company sites and offices;Manage the briefing and coaching on implementation of company H&S management systems;Create and deliver formal and informal Health and Safety training to all levels of the organisation/workforce;Manage/Carry out the production of, and review the output from accident and incident investigations;Liaise with the HSE on a regular basis, in particular after an HSE site visit or after an accident;Prepare safety reports for various meetings, including Board Meetings;Maintain, analyse and act upon safety performance data and other information;Provide and update Health & Safety based responses for PQQ and tender submissions;Other duties as required to promote and improve the Health and Safety standards and performance of the organisation;Liaise with client / customer safety representatives.

Knowledge skills & experience

Chartered membership of IOSH (essential();Full NEBOSH Diploma/Part 2 (essential);Environmental training/qualification would be advantageous Previous experience as health and safety Advisor within the construction industry (essential);Experience of type of projects relevant to the Business Unit preferred (e.g. Education, Health, Custodial).

Enthusiastic in promoting first class health and safety standards; Ability to work effectively as leader of a team; Ability to work independently and autonomously; Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a range of people; Experience of delivering health and safety related training; Experience of accident and incident investigations; Experience of HSE investigations/enforcement.

This role will be based from our office in Birmingham but will cover our operations nationally. Therefore regular UK travel and over night stays will be necessary. The ideal candidate must be prepared to travel regularly.
