Caretaker (Kent BSF)
The Kier Group is currently seeking a Caretaker for our Facilities Management service.
Initially the position will be based at Thamesview School in Gravesend, however the role is required to work across 3 school sites within a 2 mile radius, as part of the BSF programme.
The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth running of the schools by carrying out a range of Caretaker duties including security and supervision of the site and related equipment.
Other caretaking duties will include porterage, cleaning and maintenance along with the management of the cleaning staff/work.
An Enhanced CRB check is required with this role.

Responsibilities
Undertaking cleaning of allocated areas and secondary cleaning.
Carry out emergency cleaning as required as the result of accident, sickness, vandalism etc.
Washing internal walls e.g. classrooms, corridors.
Window cleaning at a low level.
Washing and cleaning of diffusers and replacing bulbs/tubes. A specialist contractor should undertake work at a high level such as in the hall.
Monitoring the standards of cleanliness of the premises and furnishing and reporting any deficiencies to the Facilities Manager.
Drawing the attention of the appropriate authorities via the Facilities Manager to any repairs or maintenance work required at the premises which is beyond the competence of the caretaking staff.
Carrying out first line repairs and maintenance which are not beyond the scope and capability of the post holder including; Plumbing work (e.g. repairing a leaking pipe, simple installation work such as plumbing in a new tap, or replacing washer etc) - Plastering work (e.g. repairing cracked or broken plaster) - Glazing work (e.g. replacing small windows, re-beading or re-putting glass panes, internal and external) - Fencing and boundary repairs (e.g. mending broken fencing panels or stakes, repairing holes in chain link fences etc).
Ensuring that all areas within the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
Taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods and conveying them to their points of distribution. Dealing with laundry, goods, materials etc.
Ensuring that adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other supplies are available. Placing the routine order for the supplies as instructed.
Operating the heating plant so that the required temperatures are maintained in the premises and an adequate supply of hot water is available. Carry out frost precaution procedures.
Ensuring that all caretaking and cleaning equipment is in safe and working condition and arranging for repairs as appropriate.
Carrying out routine procedures or checks on ancillary equipment, e.g. checking batteries, automatic pumps and areas subject to flooding.
Carrying out school and Kier Facilities Services Limited based procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.
Minor DIY, which is within the scope and capability of the post holder.
Weekly fire alarm testing and monthly emergency lighting tests and water temperature checks as instructed. Report faults to the Kier Facilities Services Limited Help Desk.
Take utility meter readings and report as instructed.
Set out and put away chairs for meetings and assemblies as required.
Undertaking mutually agreed occasional letting and related duties as appropriate and in accordance with agreements. Preparing the school premises and site for out of school hours activities and meetings.
Opening and closing of school premises for school functions.
Advising the Facilities Manager if overtime hours are required to carry out duties.
Take utility meter readings and report as instructed.
Ensure that all hard play areas and paths are kept from litter, stones, mud etc and that gullies and drains are free-flowing and cleaned at surface level (and below level if practical)
Clear litter from grounds as necessary and check and empty playground dustbins as required ensuring they do not overflow.
Check bark in climbing frame area regularly, raking over when necessary.
At all times to carry out the duties in accordance with school and Kier Facilities Services Limited based policies and Health and Safety procedures.
Such other duties relating to the use of the premises as may be necessary from time to time in accordance with established local practice or within the reasonable requirements of the Facilities Manager.
The duties may be varied by the Facilities Manager to meet changing circumstances in a manner compatible with the post held.

To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with the relevant Health & Safety Regulations.
To maintain a safe working environment reporting any incident or hazard regarding Health & Safety in the workplace.
