Based in our clients technical and operational centre on the edge of Trafford Park, next to Salford Keys and Media City, we are looking for a senior executive to represent the business and develop the opportunity as an enabling capability for the City. The General Manager (Gamma Manchester Network) will report, initially, directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the group. Subsequent reporting arrangements will be influenced by the success of the venture.

Gamma has some 77km of largely idle fibre and ducting assets woven through the Greater Manchester area and close to many of these major sources of data. Much of this capability (which was installed in the 1990s for a very different purpose) is in areas where others have not invested, but with commercial and residential redevelopment underway this presents an opportunity to utilise the asset and the services it can support.

The Company already has several initiatives underway and recognises that this needs a local focus to succeed long term. The intention is to create a local brand as part of the Gamma Group providing services to larger customers on-net services from dark fibre to Ethernet, SIP, and ideally the full Gamma product range. These sophisticated services will be provided from the existing capability in the Group.

This is effectively a start-up within the business. How it develops will be based on the results.

Objective
1. To ensure that the significant business opportunities under discussion are developed and continued in a consistent way.
2. Work with Gamma marketing to identify further opportunities within the area and close to the network
3. To pursue such opportunities with a high success rate, selling into customers the higher value services that are already successful nationally.

Characteristics
1. Articulate and convincing; able to interact successfully at director/CIO/CEO level in both local government and business.
2. Good breadth of understanding of telecoms services and how they are deployed to business benefit
3. Good understanding of business finance
4. Good team player able to pull on the resources as needed in the rest of the company
5. Strong sales capability and experience
6. A passion to seize and develop an opportunity
7. Lives locally and knows Greater Manchester well with strong links to the area
